ARCHIVED SNAPSHOT · Rankings reflect the March 17, 2026 tuning pass and are not current recommendations.
Tier lists are screenshots of a moment pretending they are laws of physics. This one reflects the March 17 tuning pass, before months of balance changes, logs, routes, and players finding better ways to break things. I am keeping it because it is part of the Season 1 record. I am not presenting it as the current answer to what you should play. Play the spec you actually want to log into.

Soul Harvester took a beating today. Demonic Soul down 55%, Manifested down 50%. Demo is still the best DPS in the game. The core kit is too complete to drop out of S. Strong cleave, interrupt options through Grimoire pets, great survivability with Felguard, and solid group utility. If you're maining DPS this season this is your pick. Just build away from Soul Harvester for now.

A couple of adjustments today, nothing that changes the spec's identity. Augmentation's value comes from group amplification at a level nothing else matches. Play it with a consistent group that coordinates burst and you'll feel it on every pull. In PUGs the ceiling never gets reached so save it for premades.

Blizzard swung hard. 20% flat damage reduction tells you how far ahead this spec was. Epidemic and Virulent Plague got partial compensation buffs but the net result is a meaningful drop. Survivability and utility are intact, the hype cools off. Dropped from A+ to A. Good spec, solid player choice, just not the runaway pick it was last week.
Melee/RangedTankyNerfed Hard
20% overall and Balance needed every bit of it. Starfall got trimmed while Starsurge and Wrath got buffed, which pulls the damage profile toward single-target and priority damage. Also a Convoke the Spirits bug got fixed. It was casting the wrong version of Starsurge and inflating logs early this week. The spec earns its A+ on its own merits now.

Cobra Shot up 100% and Barbed Shot up 35% in PvE. BM moves from C to B with numbers that back up how smooth it is to play. Full damage while moving, predictable cooldown beats, easiest spec in the game for players learning raid mechanics. If you've been sitting on a BM main, this is the week to log in.

Ret got a lot today. Final Verdict up 30%, melee damage up 25% across the board, Templar and Herald of the Sun both buffed, Empyrean Hammer up 30%. Divine Storm trimmed slightly which balances the profile away from pure cleave. Solid jump into comfortable mid-B. Worth picking back up if you shelved it early.
MeleeStrong UtilityBuffed
Enhancement was underperforming and got the buffs it needed. 8% overall plus Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, and Primordial Storm all up 10%. Moves into A tier comfortably. The community is hyped and the numbers back it up, but specs that jump this visibly tend to get a follow-up nerf once Mythic logs come in. Play it well and stay ready for adjustments around March 24.
MeleeBloodlustWatch for Nerfs
15% is meaningful and Arms needed it. Still sitting at the bottom of the DPS list, but the gap to mid-tier is smaller. Fury got 10% and sits in A, which is the better Warrior DPS pick right now. Arms has a fun Apex Talent gameplay loop and strong utility. The numbers just need a few more tuning passes to catch up.

Tank balance is the healthiest it's been at an expansion launch in years. Every spec can clear all current content. These gaps are about what you bring to your group. Guardian took a hard damage nerf today but remains a functional tank with excellent utility.
10% damage increase and a Phalanx rework that redistributes power more cleanly. Best all-round tank entering Season 1. Strong utility, good survivability, cleanest toolkit in the role. Piercing Howl cooldown went to 90 seconds with a reduced radius, so the ally speed buff is less frequent, but the overall package is unchanged.
Best UtilityConsistentBuffed
Took a 20% ability damage reduction across the board plus significant Druid of the Claw nerfs. Guardian was clearly overtuned on damage for a tank spec. Mark of the Wild, Stampeding Roar, and Soothe keep it valuable in any group, but the damage output that made it a popular pick is dialed back hard. Drops to B.

6% healing reduction was expected given how far ahead it was. Resto Druid is well-designed for how Midnight healing works: consistent throughput, smooth cooldown loops, and a toolkit that covers most situations. The nerf brings it closer to the field. Safest healer pick entering Season 1.

Chain Heal up 20% and Healing Rain up 45%. Resto Shaman was feeling good to play and the output catches up now. The only healer in Midnight with an interrupt, which makes it a compelling first pick for serious M+ groups on top of Bloodlust and the rest of the utility toolkit. Jumps to A+.

Dream Breath up 20% with Merithra's Blessing amplifying it to 250% (was 125%), Reversion up 25%, and Rewind healing tripled outside of raids. Preservation moves to A and should feel genuinely strong in the hands of anyone who picks it up. More accessible than last expansion and the numbers back it up now.
